Heads UP! Stop, Think, Click...

Welcome to my BLOG!  My blog is designed to get the conversation started on Internet safety for students.  Please take a look at the video, use the article links for more information, and read some of my opinions on the topic.

Safe and Healthy Internet Practices

How can we ensure the safe use of the Internet by our students?

Being online you are connected to the world around you, both local and abroad.  All too often students do not realize that the pictures, comments, and bios shared on the Internet can affect the people in your life.  Even if you utilize the privacy settings on websites, you can never be completely sure if the information you choose to share is secure.

The best practice is to THINK before you post and share.

Websites, and social networking sites are encouraging our students to continue to share more information about themselves.  The trouble is students can feel anonymous when online, and forget they are still accountable for their actions.  Some people using the Internet have bad intentions; including bullies, predators, and scammers.  As parents and educators, you may also be concerned that your kids could find pornography, violence, or hate speech online.  How can we keep students safe with being online, and have access to so much?

While we may never be able to completely protect our studnets, we can reduce these risks by educating our kids about how they communicate—online and off—and encouraging them to engage in conduct they can be proud of...

I look forward to hearing from you!  Please leave your thoughts, ideas, and comments...
